Evacuating the wounded under fire is one of the most dangerous missions on the frontline. Many lives are lost simply because medics cannot reach injured soldiers in time.
To help address this, UUA has delivered three ground evacuation robots to the 1st Separate Medical Battalion in Ukraine. These robotic systems can reach wounded soldiers in extremely dangerous conditions — including minefields, artillery fire, and enemy drone attacks — where human rescuers often cannot safely go.
Before being destroyed during missions on the battlefield, these three robots saved 10 lives, sparing 10 Ukrainian families the pain of losing their loved ones.
The battalion shared mission statistics for each robot:
Dr Tom
• 5 wounded soldiers evacuated
• 2 missions under direct attack — soldiers were still rescued
• 5 cancelled missions
• Total missions: 10
The most successful robot, which remains in Kostiantynivka.
Vopli Vidopliassova
• 3 wounded soldiers evacuated
• 1 explosion during evacuation — the soldier survived
• 2 cancelled missions
• Total missions: 6
Remains near Reznykivka village.
Charlie
• 1 wounded soldier evacuated
• 2 cancelled missions
• Total missions: 3
Remains in Kostiantynivka.
These robots operate where evacuation teams often cannot safely reach — saving lives under constant threat.
One of the systems used for evacuation is the “Maul” Ground Robotic Complex, the first Ukrainian robotic platform designed specifically for evacuating wounded soldiers. Built from 3.5 years of battlefield experience, it can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h, allowing medics to quickly evacuate the injured even under constant drone and artillery attacks.
Each Maul evacuation robot costs 800,000 UAH (approximately 29,300 AUD), and every robot deployed means more lives saved.
We sincerely thank all donors who supported this project and helped make these life-saving missions possible.
