UUA has joined the humanitarian initiative Waves of Hope Ukraine, a project focused on rebuilding homes and restoring hope for families affected by the war in Ukraine.
The initiative was launched in 2023 by YWAM Kyiv (Youth With a Mission). After the liberation of the Kyiv region in 2022, the organization witnessed the large-scale destruction of homes and communities. In response, YWAM Kyiv began building temporary shelters for families who had lost their homes before the winter season. Working together with Homes of Hope International and hundreds of international volunteers, the team built 100 shelters for people in urgent need.
Since then, the project has grown into a broader reconstruction initiative known as Waves of Hope. The program now focuses on building more durable houses in communities that experienced Russian occupation during the full-scale invasion.
In addition to construction, volunteer teams visit the villages where the homes are built. They spend time with residents, listen to their stories, and support local communities by organizing children’s camps and community events.
Since 2022, YWAM Kyiv and international volunteers have built more than 230 homes, including several permanent houses and community centres. The initiative has also inspired similar projects in countries such as Tanzania and Jamaica.
All homes are funded through donations from supporters around the world. Each house costs approximately $12,500, and the goal for 2026 is to build 40 new homes in Ukraine. Check videos about the initiative:

Organizers say the project is about more than construction. Each house represents a symbol of hope and dignity for families who lost their homes and, in many cases, loved ones during the war.
